IBARAKI (TR) – Ibaraki Prefectural Police have arrested a 24-year-old man for his alleged role in a major burglary at a residence in Mito City.
The perpetrators made off with approximately 16 million yen in cash and valuables, reports TV Asahi (Sep. 10).
Kota Nemoto is accused of participating in the home invasion in September of last year. According to police, the suspects stole about 10 million yen in cash, along with a safe, bags, and 33 other items valued at roughly 6.65 million yen.
Investigators revealed that Nemoto acted as the getaway driver and lookout during the heist. His accomplice, 28-year-old acquaintance Hikaru Shimada, was the one who physically broke into the residence and ransacked the property. Shimada was previously arrested in May for his involvement in the crime.
Upon questioning, Nemoto denied the allegations, whereas Shimada has admitted to the charges.
Police are continuing their investigation, suspecting that the break-in was orchestrated by a tokuryu group, whose members communicate anonymously via smartphone apps.
