KYOTO (TR) – A 62-year-old Kyoto Prefectural Government official has voluntarily resigned after being disciplined for repeatedly trespassing into a workplace women’s restroom to steal used sanitary products, reports ABC News (Sep. 8).
According to the prefectural government, the man, who worked under the jurisdiction of the Nantan Regional Promotion Bureau, sneaked into the women’s restroom between five and seven times from December of last year to June. Once inside, he collected and made off with discarded sanitary items.
His bizarre thefts came to light in June when police officers approached him for a routine questioning while he was parked at a commercial facility in neighboring Osaka Prefecture. During the encounter, officers discovered the stolen sanitary products resting on the passenger seat of his personal vehicle.
During a subsequent investigation by the prefecture, the man admitted to the allegations.
“I entered the women’s restroom when I was working overtime and there was no one else on the floor,” he was quoted as saying.
The prefectural government issued the man a three-month disciplinary suspension. Following the announcement of the punishment, he voluntarily resigned from his post on Tuesday.
