KYOTO (TR) – Police in Kyoto City have arrested a 61-year-old man after his relentless, round-the-clock guitar playing and blaring radio allegedly caused neighbors to suffer from depression and insomnia, reports TBS News (July 24).
Kazunori Yokoi, an unemployed resident of Nishikyo Ward, is accused of driving four neighboring residents to develop stress-related psychological illnesses through continuous noise pollution.
Upon his arrest on suspicion of inflicting injury, Yokoi partially denied the allegations. While not denying the noise itself, he told investigators that accusations of him deliberately intending to inflict injury on his neighbors are “wrong.”
According to police, the racket reached up to 80 decibels — a volume equivalent to the inside of a moving train carriage — started in January 2017.
Recordings taken by desperate residents in May of last year captured the blaring sounds of what appeared to be an electric guitar echoing from the suspect’s residence.
During a search of Yokoi’s home, investigators confiscated 76 items, including various musical instruments.
