NHK announcer admits to shoplifting groceries ‘dozens of times’

EHIME (TR) – Police are questioning a male announcer from NHK’s Matsuyama Broadcasting Station over allegations of serial shoplifting, investigative sources have revealed, reports TV Asahi (July 9).

The announcer is suspected of stealing groceries and other items from a commercial facility in Matsuyama City. During voluntary questioning by police, the man admitted to the allegations, reportedly confessing, “I have done it dozens of times.”

The suspect, whose name has not yet been released, previously served as a host for various information programs for the public broadcaster.

In response to the scandal, NHK Matsuyama issued a brief statement regarding their employee. “As this is still at the investigative stage, we will confirm the facts and deal with the matter appropriately,” a representative said.
