TOCHIGI (TR) – Police in Nikko City have arrested a 56-year-old man after the skeletonized remains of a body were discovered inside his home, reports TV Asahi (July 1).
Masayuki Saito is accused of abandoning a corpse at his residence in Nikko City. Upon his arrest, he admitted to the allegations, police said.
According to investigators, Saito lived at the property with his mother, who turns 80 this year. The gruesome discovery unfolded after a concerned relative contacted local authorities on the Tuesday afternoon, reporting that they had not been able to reach Saito’s mother for several years.
When officers visited the home to investigate, they found a skeletonized body resting on the first floor of the residence.
Police are now working to officially identify the remains—which are widely believed to be those of Saito’s missing mother—and are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.
