HYOGO (TR) – Police in Kobe City have launched an investigation after a man was found dead inside a storage container with bladed weapons plunged into his left eye and abdomen, reports the Asahi Shimbun (June 8).
The grisly discovery was made at around 1:30 p.m. on Monday at a civil engineering company’s yard in the Wakamiyacho area of Suma Ward.
The company president dialed police in a panic, telling the emergency dispatcher, “A person has collapsed. Blood is coming from his toes. I’m too scared to look inside.”
Arriving officers found the victim, believed to be in his 50s or 60s, with his feet protruding from the open doors of the container. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where he was later pronounced dead, according to the Suma Police Station.
The unidentified man was dressed in a khaki hoodie and black pants. He was carrying no personal belongings or identification. Police are currently working to identify the victim and determine the exact circumstances behind his violent death.
According to investigators, the container belongs to a separate marine products company and was being used to store fishing gear. Employees of the civil engineering firm noted that the doors to the container were securely closed when last checked on June 3.
The scene is located in a desolate industrial area lined with ships and cargo containers facing Osaka Bay, approximately 850 meters southeast of JR Suma Kaihin Koen Station.
