SAITAMA (TR) – Police in Kasukabe City have arrested a 14-year-old middle school girl accused of spraying a woman in the face during a brazen street robbery, reports Nippon News Network (June 8).
At just after 10:30 p.m. on June 6, the victim, a woman in her 60s, was walking home when the teenager suddenly approached her from behind and attempted to snatch her bag.
When the woman resisted, the girl sprayed an unidentified substance directly into her face. During the ensuing struggle, a wallet containing approximately 40,000 yen in cash fell from the victim’s bag. The teen grabbed the wallet and fled the scene.
Upon her arrest on suspicion of robbery resulting in injury, the middle school student admitted to the allegations.
“I didn’t have any money and wanted some,” she was quoted as telling investigators.
However, despite being attacked, the victim chased the assailant for about 150 meters and managed to tackle and pin her down until authorities arrived. The woman sustained injuries in the attack that will require approximately one week to heal.
