Tokyo cop shoots himself in head at residential police box

TOKYO (TR) – A Tokyo Metropolitan Police officer in his 30s was rushed to the hospital Tuesday morning after attempting suicide with a handgun at a residential police box in Machida City, reports TBS News (May 30).

At approximately 7:00 a.m., emergency dispatchers received a frantic call from the officer’s wife at the Kogusaka residential police box (chuzaisho). “My husband shot himself in the head with a handgun,” she told operators.

According to investigative sources, the male officer is believed to have used his police-issued service weapon in the suicide attempt.

He was immediately transported to a local hospital. His current condition has not been disclosed.

Police are currently investigating the detailed circumstances leading up to the shooting.
