OSAKA (TR) — Police in Osaka City have arrested a 59-year-old unemployed man after he stabbed a stranger in the back at a local supermarket on Saturday.
The incident took place at approximately 6:15 p.m. inside the supermarket, located in the Higashi-Mikuni area of Yodogawa Ward, followed a petty dispute over walking space, reports Fuji News Network (May 23).
According to investigators, the victim, a 41-year-old company employee, was struck in the back with a kitchen knife. He was rushed to a hospital within the prefecture, where his condition was assessed as non-life-threatening.
Officers apprehended the suspect at the scene. Upon his arrest on suspicion of attempted murder, the suspect, a resident of Yodogawa Ward, exercised his right to remain silent during questioning.
Police revealed that the two men had no prior acquaintance, and the violent escalation reportedly stemmed from a minor altercation after the men bumped into each other or had trouble passing one another in the store’s aisles.
Police are continuing to investigate the detailed circumstances and motive behind the sudden attack.
