CHIBA (TR) – Police here have arrested an Afghan national for allegedly harboring a stolen luxury vehicle at a storage yard, reports Nippon News Network (May 13).

Ismail Yawari is suspected of keeping a Toyota Land Cruiser, valued at approximately 9 million yen, at a yard he operates in Togane City last December.

The vehicle had been stolen from a location in Tokyo, police said.

Investigators moved to arrest Yawari after confirming the luxury SUV was driven into his facility on the exact day it went missing. Police believe it is highly likely the vehicle has already been sold off.

Authorities suspect the incident is part of a broader, organized operation run by a foreign auto theft ring.

Police are currently probing the exact relationship between Yawari and the individuals who carried out the initial theft.
