AICH (TR) – Police have arrested a 37-year-old Brazilian national following a tense two-hour armed standoff at an apartment in Toyohashi City, reports Fuji News Network (May 5).
Rodrigues Rogerio Saito, whose residence and occupation are unknown, was taken into custody on the spot at around 5:30 p.m. on Monday. He faces charges of obstructing police in the performance of their duties after allegedly pointing a pair of scissors at officers.
The incident began at approximately 3:15 p.m. when a patrolling officer approached Saito, who was sitting inside a stolen vehicle. Rather than cooperate, the suspect fled, climbing through the window of a nearby first-floor apartment in the Tame-Nakamachi area.

Once inside, Saito barricaded himself and threatened pursuing officers, shouting, “If you come in, I’ll kill you.”
Footage captured by a bystander recorded the tense negotiations, with an officer heard pleading with the suspect: “Put down the scissors. Put down the knife, too. I just wanted to ask whose car that is.”
Police quickly evacuated nearby residents to safety as they attempted to talk the suspect down. After approximately two hours of failed negotiations, officers shattered the apartment’s window glass, stormed the room, and subdued Saito.
