TOKYO (TR) – Major pizza delivery chain Pizza-La has announced that it is considering legal action against part-time workers who posted an inappropriate prank video online that exposed a customer’s personal information.
The video, which recently went viral on social media, was filmed at the chain’s Kamata branch in February of last year. According to the company, the footage shows part-time staff engaging in inappropriate horseplay inside the store.
More alarmingly, the workers filmed and uploaded a delivery receipt, exposing a customer’s private details to the public.
In a statement published on its official website on May 2, Pizza-La issued a profound apology for the incident. “As a company involved in food and dedicated to delivering safe and convenient services, causing such a situation is deeply regrettable,” the statement read.
Addressing hygiene concerns sparked by the footage, the company clarified that ingredients seen dropped on the floor in the video were disposed of and never served to customers.
Corrective measures
The Kamata branch has been temporarily shuttered while management implements corrective measures. The company confirmed it has also directly contacted the customer whose information was leaked to offer an apology and handle the fallout.
An internal investigation is currently underway, including interrogations of the involved staff.
Pizza-La management stated they intend to deal with the perpetrators “strictly” in accordance with company regulations. The chain is already consulting with police and public health centers, noting that they are fully prepared to take legal action against the individuals responsible.
The company vowed to immediately overhaul its employee compliance training in a desperate bid to rebuild public trust.
