Chinese national nabbed after 7-vehicle collision in Itabashi

TOKYO (TR) – Police have arrested a 23-year-old Chinese national following a chaotic seven-vehicle collision in Itabashi Ward that left six people injured, including two police officers, reports Nippon News Network (Apr. 29).

The incident occurred at around 11:45 a.m. on Tuesday along a street in Oyama-higashicho. According to investigative sources, the suspect’s vehicle slammed into a parked car by the side of the road before plowing into two police officers riding bicycles nearby.

The out-of-control vehicle then veered into the oncoming traffic lane, colliding with another car. In total, five cars and two bicycles were involved in the wreckage.

Six people sustained injuries in the crash. Three of the victims, including the two police officers, suffered severe injuries, including broken bones.

“I heard a tremendous noise, and when I stepped outside, it was just like this,” an eyewitness recalled. “There were two police officers, and their bicycles were there…they had been completely blown away and were both lying on the ground.”

Tokyo police arrested the 23-year-old driver on the spot on suspicion of negligent driving resulting in injury. Authorities are continuing to investigate the precise cause and circumstances surrounding the violent crash.
