Saitama prosecutors do not indict talent agency head over alleged rape ‘to protect victim’s privacy’

SAITAMA (TR) – Prosecutors here have decided not to indict the male head of a talent agency over the alleged rape of an actress three years ago.

Prosecutors said on April 25 that the decision was made out of privacy concerns, reports the Saitama Shimbun (Apr. 25).

The 39-year-old agency head was arrested in January on suspicion of non-consensual sexual intercourse.

On August 9 and 13, 2023, the agency head is alleged to have sexually assaulted the woman, aged in her 30s, in an apartment complex in Kasukabe City.

On April 24, the Saitama District Public Prosecutors Office announced the non-indictment of the agency head.

The reason for the decision was stated as “not to disclose from the standpoint of protecting the victim’s privacy.”

The actress was under the same talent agency. According to the Kasukabe Police Station, in September of 2023, the woman contacted the prefectural police, stating that she had been sexually assaulted by the head of the agency.

Based on the woman’s report, the police station investigated and identified the perpetrator. The agency head denied the charges, stating that “it happened, but it wasn’t forced.”
