CHIBA (TR) — Chiba Prefectural Police have arrested a 37-year-old woman after a decomposing corpse was discovered inside her apartment in Narashino City.
The body is likely that of the mother of suspect Shiho Kotori, reports TV Asahi (Apr. 7).
Katori is accused of abandoning the corpse of the woman inside her residence in the Saginuma area for approximately four months, beginning around late November of last year.
Upon her arrest on suspicion of abandoning a corpse, Katori admitted to the allegations.
According to police, an employee of the apartment’s management company visited the property on Monday due to months of unpaid rent.
When nobody answered the intercom, the employee contacted authorities. Officers who subsequently entered the unit found the rotting corpse lying on the floor.
Katori was present inside the apartment at the time of the discovery.
Police believe the deceased is Katori’s mother, who is in her 60s and shares the apartment with the suspect. Because investigators have been unable to reach the mother, they are currently working to formally identify the body and determine the exact cause of death.
