ギブミーマネー: Nagoya man suspected of faking robbery involving foreigners

AICHI (TR) – Aichi Prefectural Police believe a 37-year-old man who reported being the victim of a robbery in Nagoya City last month was telling a lie, reports Tokai TV (Mar. 6).

On the night of February 27, the temporary worker ran to a police station, saying that he had been threatened with what appeared to be a gun by two men on a street in Sanbonmatsucho, Atsuta Ward.

The pair had stolen an envelope containing 260,000 yen in cash, he claimed.

The man also said that the supposed culprits, who appeared to be foreigners, had said things like “Give me money.”

However, an examination of security camera footage and the man’s statement revealed that he was not the victim of a robbery, meaning he was telling a lie.

Police have not revealed why he lied, but they are investigating the case as a possible violation of the Minor Offenses Act and obstruction of business by fraudulent means.
