Man suspected of groping woman in Tokyo ‘lost rationality’

TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested a 27-year-old man over the alleged groping of a woman in Nerima Ward last month, reports Nippon News Network (Feb. 27).

According to investigators, Hayato Tochinai approached the woman, aged in her 20s, from behind as she was on her way home on a street in Nerima Ward. He then committed lewd acts, including groping her buttocks.

During questioning, Tochinai admitted to the charges. He said, “I drank heavily due to work stress and lost my rationality.”

The suspect was not acquainted with the victim before the incident. It is believed that Tochinai saw the woman at a railway station near the crime scene before the incident. He then followed her for about 500 meters before committing the crime.

Several similar cases have been confirmed in Suginami Ward. Tokyo Metropolitan Police are investigating whether Tochinai was involved in those cases also.
