The 74-year-old Furuya lived alone. The results of an autopsy conducted on Thursday revealed that he likely died around the beginning of this month. The cause of death was a blow to the head.

The wound to his head, measuring around 10 centimeters across, was likely made by a blunt object, police said.

Based on the circumstances at the scene, police believe robbery was unlikely.
