CHIBA (TR) – Chiba Prefectural Police have arrested three men and women of Sri Lankan nationality in connection with the robbery and assault of an elderly man in the town of Tako last year, reports TBS News (Feb. 5).
Last August, Heenkenda Mudalige Gayan Priyadarshana, 36, and the other two Sri Lankan suspects allegedly broke into the home and tied up the hands and feet of the male resident, 73, with adhesive tape
After punching him in the face, they stole his wallet containing 40,000 yen in cash and his smartphone.
Police have not revealed whether the three have admitted to the crime.

According to police, the three men broke into the home through an unlocked front door and fled in a car after the crime. The victim suffered unspecified injuries that took two weeks to heal.
The three suspects are acquaintances and are not believed to have known the victim.
Police said they were able to arrest the suspects after examining security camera footage and other sources.
Police are investigating the possibility that the suspects may have worked with accomplices.
