TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police have arrested a male Brazilian man who runs a tour company over illegally modified sports cars used for sightseeing tours for visitors in Japan, reports TBS News (Jan. 22).
At around 10:00 p.m. on November 21, Danilo Gomes da Rocha, the 34-year-old president of Hoguruma”, is accused of having two contract employees drive two sports cars, including a Nissan GT-R, with illegally modified mufflers in Koto Ward.
According to police, the illegal mufflers were to make the exhaust noise louder.
Upon his arrest on suspicion of violating the Road Traffic Act, Gomes de Rocha denied the allegations. He said, “I was unaware that the cars were poorly maintained.”
The company as a corporation was also referred to prosecutors.
According to police, the two cars picked up foreign tourists in domestic sports cars and took them around Tokyo Tower and Daikoku Wharf.
The crime was discovered when the vehicles were stopped at a checkpoint after dropping off the passengers.
Hoguruma, which is based in Shinjuku Ward, generates approximately 200 million yen in annual revenue from the tours.
