Ryoko Yonekura sent to prosecutors amid drug probe

TOKYO (TR) – Sources have revealed to Fuji News Network (Jan. 20) that actress Ryoko Yonekura has been referred to prosecutors as a part of an illegal drugs probe.

According to the network, Yonekura, 50, has been accused of violating the Narcotics Control Law.

The Kanto-Shinetsu Regional Bureau of Health, Labour and Welfare’s Narcotics Control Division conducted searches of homes associated with Yonekura and an male Argentine acquaintance last summer after suspicions arose that they were involved with illegal drugs.

During the search, investigators seized items that appeared to be drugs. A subsequent analysis revealed that they were in fact illegal.

The Argentinian is believed to have already left the country. The Narcotics Control Division has been continuing its investigation to determine who the drugs belonged to, with a view to filing charges of joint possession.

In December 2025, Yonekura commented on her agency’s website, “As some reports have stated, it is true that investigative authorities entered my home. I will continue to cooperate with the investigation, but I believe that this case has come to a close thanks to our cooperation so far.”

The Tokyo District Public Prosecutors Office is expected to carefully consider what disciplinary action to take after receiving the documents.
