OSAKA (TR) – The lawyer for a former baton twirling instructor convicted earlier this month of sexually assaulting a male student in Kyoto City has filed an appeal, reports Mainichi Broadcasting System (Dec. 22).
On December 15, the Kyoto District Court sentenced Keima Oshiro, 41, to six years in prison. The presiding judge said in handing down the ruling, “The victim suffered great mental anguish from the defendant, whom he trusted as a coach.”
According to the ruling, Oshiro sexually assaulted the male high school student three times in 2023 at his apartment.
At the first hearing in March, Oshiro denied the charges. “I did not believe he was in a position where he could not resist,” he said. “I did not intend to force myself on him.” As well, the defense maintained his innocence.
Nightmare began in 2023
The boy started baton twirling at the age of three. He met the defendant at the school he started attending. He then joined the team coached by the defendant when he was in middle school. The nightmare began in February 2023, when he was a third-year high school student.
The defendant held him down and performed indecent acts on him at his apartment. The following month, he was sexually assaulted again. He confided in his family and contacted the police.
The defendant was arrested in April 2024, but the player experienced constant nausea and trembling after the incident. He also suffered from baseless rumors that she was dating the defendant.
In December 2023, the Baton Twirling Association of Japan announced disciplinary action against. However, it decided that disciplinary action could not be taken in the end because the defendant had already withdrawn from the association.
“The defendant is not facing up to the incident”
On December 19, Oshiro’s lawyer filed an appeal.
Following the appeal, the father of the victim commented, “The defendant is not facing up to the incident. The appeal shows that he has no remorse, and the secondary victimization will not end.”
