AICHI (TR) – He just gave up.
An elderly man on his way to renewing his driver’s license caused an accident in Komaki City, causing him to give up the renewal, police said, reports TV Asahi (Dec. 17).
At a little after noon on Tuesday, the 83-year-old man drove arrived in the parking lot at the Komaki Police Station to renew his driver’s license.
As he was backing into a space, he made some kind of driving error, hitting another car and crashing into shrubbery.
There were no injuries in the accident, police said.
A police officer at the scene asked the man what he planned to do next. “I actually wanted to renew my license for another three years. But I’m getting older. Since I caused such an accident, I’m going to return my license.”
The man then returned his driver’s license on the spot.
