Setagaya family murders 25 years on: Police continue to seek help

TOKYO (TR) – The 25th anniversary of the murder of four members of a family in Setagaya Ward is two weeks away.

The case remains unsolved. As a result, Tokyo Metropolitan Police are seeking help from the public in obtaining information on the case.

On December 31, 2000, Mikio Miyazawa, 44, his wife, 41-year-old Yasuko and their two children — 8-year-old daughter Niina and 6-year-old son Rei — were found dead inside their residence in the Kamisoshigaya area.

Since then, police have dedicated significant resources to the case but no significant clues have been found.

On Tuesday, police unveiled a model of the crime scene and a new poster. They are asking for information, even if it is small. A police representative said, “There may be things that can be said now that so much time has passed.”

A reward of up to 20 million yen is being offered for valuable information leading to the arrest of the perpetrators in this case.
