TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police arrested a 46-year-old man who fled a railway station after he was accused of groping a woman on a train, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Dec. 9).
At around 9:00 a.m. on November 6, Tatsuya Iwabuchi, of no known occupation, allegedly committed indecent acts on a woman in her 30s commuting on a JR Shonan-Shinjuku Line train traveling between Nishi-Oi and Osaki stations.
Upon his arrest on suspicion of indecent assault, Iwabuchi admitted to the allegations, the Osaki Police Station said.
According to police, Iwabuchi boarded the train at Yokohama Station and looked around for women in the crowded car.
He subsequently pressed his lower body up against the female victim. When she noticed something, she called out to Iwabuchi.
She suspect allegedly fled at Osaki Station. He stepped off the platform onto the tracks and ran for about 10 minutes, then climbed over a barbed wire fence and made his escape.
An examination of security camera footage implicated Iwabuchi. Police are investigating the possibility that Iwabuchi may have committed other indecent acts against women on trains.
