CHIBA (TR) – A male Chinese national who allegedly pointed a knife at a former colleague inside a banquet hall at Tokyo DisneySea on Monday has been arrested, police said, reports TBS News (Dec. 2).
At around 8:00 p.m., a witness at the Hotel MiraCosta telephoned police. “A man suddenly entered the building with a kitchen knife approximately 20 cm long.”
According to police, the suspect pointed the knife at the former colleague before fleeing the the scene. There were no injuries, police said.
On Tuesday, police arrested Jiang Chunyu, 34, who lives in Kawasaki City, on suspicion of violating the Act on Punishment of Violence and Other Crimes. Jiang denies the allegations.
He said, “I entered the banquet hall and was handing out a protest letter, but they forcibly stopped me, so I simply took out a Chinese knife I had brought with me from my bag. I did not point it at anyone or threaten anyone.”
The incident occurred during a year-end party for the former company of the suspect at the hotel. After allegedly wielding the knife, Jiang fled the area by train from JR Maihama Station.
According to one attendee of the party, angry shouts in Chinese suddenly rang out during a raffle. Although Jiang was not seen, papers with Chinese writing on them were scattered on each table at the venue.
Police believe there was some kind of trouble between the man and a former colleague, and are investigating the details of what happened.
