KANAGAWA (TR) – A man wielded a knife at a store clerk in Kawasaki City on Saturday before stealing approximately 150,000 yen in cash and fleeing, police said, reports Nippon News Network (Nov. 16).
At around 6:00 p.m., the wife of the owner of the store in Kokura, Saiwai Ward called police to report that someone was holding her husband at knifepoint and trying to force him to open the register.
The perpetrator then stole approximately 150,000 yen in cash and a carton of cigarettes before fleeing.
There were no other customers in the store at the time. The clerk was not injured.
The man who fled the store was in his 40s or 50s. He was wearing a gray sweater, black pants, a white hat and glasses.
Police are investigating the incident as a robbery.
