TOKYO (TR) – A man injured himself, a railway employee and four commuters after he leaped in front of a passing train at a station in Ota Ward on Wednesday night, police said, reports NHK (July 10).
At around 10:20 p.m., the man leaped from the platform at Omorimachi Station on the Keikyu Line and collided with a Limited Express train heading south as it was passing through the station.
According to police, a total of six people — including the man, the driver of the train and four passengers — were injured. Two of them, the man who collided with the train and the driver, were taken to hospital for treatment. Both were conscious at the time of transport.
The injuries of the other four people were minor, police said.

After examining security camera footage, police determined that the man jumped from the platform and collided with the front of the train, breaking through the front glass and plunging inside the driver’s compartment.
Police are currently investigating the circumstances that lead to the incident.
According to Keikyu Electric Railway, the incident caused services on the Keikyu Line to be suspended on both lines between Shinagawa Station and Keikyu Kawasaki Station for approximately two hours until 12:20 a.m. on July 10. A total of 52 trains were canceled and approximately 25,000 people were affected.
