AICHI (TR) – Aichi Prefectural Police have launched a murder case after the discovery of the bodies of an elderly man and his wife inside their residence in Nagoya, reports the Yomiuri Shimbun (Mar. 3).

At around 8:00 a.m. on Thursday, the bodies of Katsuo Oshima, 83, and his wife, 80-year-old Tamiko, were found collapsed by a neighbor inside a room on the first floor of the residence, located in Minami Ward. According to police, both of their throats had been slit by a knife.

The front door was not locked, police said. Considering that the wounds do not appear to have come from a knife found in the house, it is likely that an intruder committed the crime, police added.

The neighbor made the grisly discovery after not being able to meet with Tamiko at an appointed time. The couple was last seen in late February.
