TOKYO (TR) – Former actress Saya Takagi has been arrested in Okinawa Prefecture for allegedly possessing marijuana, reports NHK (Oct. 25).

At around 7:00 a.m. on Tuesday, officers from the Kanto Narcotics Control Department of the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare found a few dozen grams of dried marijuana at the home of Takagi, whose real name is Ikue Masudo, in Ishigaki City and inside her vehicle.

Masudo, who has been charged with violating the Cannabis Control Law, denies the charges. “(The drugs) are not mine,” she is quoted by the department. Two men in the residence at the time of the raid were also arrested on the same charges.

The department also seized a pipe and rolling paper believed to be for smoking the drugs.

In the upper house election in July, Masudo was defeated in her bid for a seat in Tokyo after she ran under a platform that advocated the lifting of the ban on marijuana for medical purposes.

Masudo, a native of Hamamatsu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, made her debt as an actress in 1983. After moving to Okinawa in 2011, she retired from show business the following year and began pursuing activities to raise awareness for environmental causes.
