HOKKAIDO (TR) – Hokkaido Prefectural Police have arrested an elderly man for the murder of his son inside the apartment they share in Hakodate City, reports Nikkan Sports (Mar. 3).

On Wednesday, police found the body of 41-year-old Tomohiro Fukui lying atop a futon with an electrical cord around his neck inside the second floor of the residence, located in the Nakajimacho area.

The victim’s father, 72-year-old Hideaki, has admitted to the killing his son.

“I thought we could die together,” the suspect is quoted by police. “But I couldn’t (kill myself).” He was found to have several gashes on his arms.

Prior to the incident, the suspect had notified family members about his intentions through a letter. A female family member received the letter on Tuesday morning and rushed to the apartment. She then notified police after making the grisly discovery.

According to TBS News (Mar. 3), the son had been suffering from an illness.
