TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police on Thursday announced the bust of an operation in the red-light district of Kabukicho that sold illegal pornographic DVDs, reports TBS News (Nov. 5).

On November 2, police raided a warehouse of the operation, located inside an apartment, arrested Masakuni Kusumoto, 36, and three other employees and seized 100,000 discs, some of which were Blu-ray versions.

By law, films available in Japan are required to have genitalia properly censored.

“I did it to make a living,” Kusumoto told police in admitting to the allegations, according Fuji News Network (Nov. 5).

In order to evade a bust, the sales office was located 200 meters away from the warehouse. Purchases made by customers, who were required to show identification, were delivered to the sales office.

As well, the suspects maintained a list of approximately 100 license plates for vehicles connected to law enforcement.

Over the past two years, the operation generated 370 million yen in sales.
