OSAKA (TR) – A police officer was arrested for groping an elderly woman and a university student at a department store in the Umeda area of Osaka City while intoxicated, Nippon News Network reported on Sunday (Nov. 13).

Iori Fukumoto, 23, of the Toyonaka Police Station, allegedly groped the buttocks of a woman in her 60s and a female high school student the Hankyu Department Store in Kita Ward at around 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, Osaka Prefectural Police said.

Fukumoto, who has been charged with violating a public nuisance ordinance, was quoted by police as saying he “doesn’t remember the sexual harassment because I was drunk.” The suspect added that he was at a party with colleagues beforehand.

The high school student who also reported being groped is a teenager, Jjji Press reported.

The incident will “be dealt with strictly,” police said.
