TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police on Thursday announced the arrest of a popular composer of music for idol groups AKB48 and Arashi on drug charges, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Nov. 6).

Officers took Kosuke Oba, a 33-year-old resident of Nakano Ward, into custody for allegedly using stimulant drugs between late October and early November.

Just before 1:00 a.m. on November 3, Oba telephoned the local fire department to report that he was having trouble breathing. After being transported to a local hospital, he indicated that his condition might be due to his recent use of stimulant drugs.

A drug test of the suspect’s urine gave a positive result.

Oba has written the music for a number of popular artists, including “The Sailor Dreams Up a Storm” for AKB48 and Arashi’s “Story.” He has also contributed a number of pieces to the animation “The Prince of Tennis.”
