TOKYO (TR) – Tokyo Metropolitan Police on Saturday announced the arrest of two suspects for a violent incident involving three officers in the Roppongi entertainment area over one year ago, reports the Yomiuri Shimbun (Apr. 6).
Officers from the Azabu Police Station took a 41-year-old restaurant manager and one other suspect, both of whom are Nigerian nationals, into custody on charges of interfering with the duties of a public servant and assault.
On the evening of December 16, 2011, a group of approximately 20 surrounded three officers after they arrested a street tout on public nuisance violations. One male officer in his 40s was pushed to the ground and suffered a broken right hand.
According to TV Asahi (Apr. 6), the restaurant manager has reportedly admitted to the allegations, while the other suspect has no recollection of the incident.
Surveillance camera footage of the incident led investigators to the suspects.
