KANAGAWA (TR) – Kanagawa Prefectural Police on Saturday arrested a Sapporo public prosecutor for groping a woman on a train in Yokohama, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Aug. 8).
Officers from the Ofuna Police Station took Yohei Arita, 28, into custody for allegedly raising the skirt of the woman, a 25-year-old office worker, and fondling her behind on the JR Negishi Line between Hongodai and Ofuna stations just after midnight.
Arita, who has been charged violating a public nuisance ordinance, denies the allegations, telling police that he was drunk at the time and does not recall anything.
Prior to the incident, the suspect, who is on vacation, had been drinking in Yokohama.
Prior to the train’s arrival at Ofuna Station, the victim, who was lying on a seat, noticed that the suspect was touching her with his left hand and let out a scream. Another passenger then apprehended Arita.
