Saitama cops make film to eradicate groping of women on trains

SAITAMA (TR) – Saitama Prefectural Police on Thursday screened a film whose aim is to eradicate the groping of women inside railway carriages, reports Nippon News Network (April 27).

The screening took place at a Saitama City high school. Girls of high school age are often the targets of chikan, or gropers.

In the four-minute clip (linked below), a girl gets the courage to report a groping incident to a railway staff member and the police.

Saitama police officers who participated in the screening appealed to the viewers, urging them to raise their voices to eliminate groping.

“[If I witnessed a molestation taking place], I wondered what the girl would think if I spoke to her now,” one viewer said, “or if I could speak to her at all because I was concerned about what others might think. I wish I had the courage to speak out.”

Police plan to stream the film at railway stations in the future.
