KYOTO (TR) – Kyoto Prefectural Police on Thursday arrested a 51-year-old male for performing an obscene act on a 14-year-old girl during a photo shoot last year, reports the Sankei Shimbun (Jan. 15).
At just after noon on November 2, the man is alleged to have touched the lower half of the body of the girl, a second-year, middle school student, while she modeled a costume emulating the virtual singing character Kagamine Rin in a wooded area of Uji City.
The suspect, who has been charged with performing an obscene act, has denied the allegations. “We took photos, but there was no obscenity,” the suspect is quoted.
According to police, the suspect enjoys “costume play,” or cosplay, and became acquainted with the victim through her classmate, whom he had met on an Internet bulletin board.
During the photo session, the suspect is alleged to have demanded that the girl spread her legs. It was then that the alleged crime took place.
The matter came to light after the victim reported the incident to her father. A surveillance camera near the scene of the crime had recorded footage showing the suspect’s vehicle.
