KANAGAWA (TR) – Kanagawa Prefectural Police have arrested a male office worker from Yokohama City for allegedly groping a woman on the Tokaido Line on Friday, reports TBS News (Dec. 6).
At approximately 10:10 p.m., Tominaga Tomohisa, who lives in Yokohama’s Totsuka Ward, is suspected of committing lewd acts with the woman, including reaching inside her clothes and touching her lower body, inside a carriage of the JR Tokaido Line train traveling between Shinagawa and Kawasaki stations.
Upon his arrest on suspicion of indecent assault without consent, Tominaga admitted to the charges. “I touched [her]. There’s no doubt about it,” he said.
When the train stopped at Kawasaki Station, a male commuter noticed the woman making uncomfortable gestures. “You’ve just molested [her], get off [the train],” the commuter said in using the word chikan (molest).
However, Tominaga refused to get off, so the man contacted the police. He said, “There’s a molester and we’ve apprehended him. We’ll be arriving in Yokohama in 10 minutes.”
When the train arrived at Yokohama Station, the commuter grabbed Tominaga’s backpack, escorted him down onto the platform and handed it over to police officers who had rushed to the scene.
