FUKUOKA (TR) — Police here have arrested a 35-year-old man who allegedly hijacked a woman’s car and molested her, prompting the victim to jump from the moving vehicle to escape, reports RKB Mainichi (Apr. 22).
Jun Egashira, a company employee residing in Fukuoka City’s Higashi Ward, was arrested on suspicion of non-consensual indecent assault resulting in injury, confinement resulting in injury, kidnapping for an indecent purpose, and theft.
At around 4:45 a.m. on April 19, Egashira approached a 38-year-old woman who was parked in a coin-operated lot in Higashi Ward while waiting for a friend. After asking her for directions, he forced his way into her light passenger vehicle.
Egashira allegedly threatened the victim, telling her, “If you don’t do what I say, you’re going to feel pain.” He then drove the car away, confining her inside and touching her breasts while she was unable to resist.
Fearing for her safety, the woman jumped out of the vehicle while it was still in motion, sustaining injuries. She flagged down a nearby bystander who helped her contact the police. Egashira allegedly fled the scene in the stolen vehicle.
During the investigation, police reviewed nearby security camera footage, which led them to identify Egashira as the suspect.
Upon his arrest, Egashira admitted to the charges. “There is generally no mistake about what I did,” he told investigators. “Seeing a passing woman flipped a switch, and my sexual desires exploded.”
