OKINAWA (TR) – Okinawa Prefectural Police are investigating the suspected suicide of a U.S. Marine discovered dead with a head wound inside a locked vehicle in Nago City on Friday, reports Jiji Press (Aug. 21).
At approximately 3:10 p.m., authorities received an emergency call reporting a “man bleeding from the head inside a car” parked in the lot of a medical facility in the Gusuku area.
According to the prefectural police, the deceased is a man in his 20s or 30s belonging to the U.S. Marine Corps stationed in Okinawa. Officers arriving at the scene found the man leaning back in the driver’s seat, clutching what appeared to be a handgun. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police revealed that the driver’s side door of the passenger vehicle was secured and could not be opened from the outside.
Given the state of the vehicle and the scene, police are treating the case as a likely suicide by firearm and are continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death.
