SAITAMA (TR) – Saitama Prefectural Police have arrested a Tokyo Fire Department official for allegedly committing an indecent act against a young woman on a street in Misato City earlier this year, reports Nippon News Network (May 27).
Kodai Hashiguchi, who is assigned to the Shibuya Fire Station, is accused of approaching a woman in her 20s from behind and touching her body inappropriately in March.
During questioning, Hashiguchi offered an ambiguous response to the allegations. “I don’t remember it well, but I don’t think I can entirely say that I didn’t do it,” he told investigators.
According to police, the suspect and the victim were not acquainted. The woman was walking home at the time of the attack. The incident came to light after the victim consulted with an acquaintance, prompting a report to the police.
The Tokyo Fire Department issued a statement addressing the arrest. “It is a fact that our employee has been arrested, and we take this matter very seriously,” a representative said. “We will confirm the details and deal with it strictly.”
