Tochigi woman nabbed over alleged theft of wagyu

TOCHIGI (TR) – Tochigi Prefectural Police have arrested a 56-year-old woman over the alleged shoplifting more than 3 kilograms of wagyu beef steak from a supermarket in Otawara City, reports TV Asahi (Mar. 31).

At around 9:00 a.m., the woman, of no known occupation, is suspected of stealing a block of meat that was being sold for approximately 26,000 yen from the supermarket.

According to the police, the meat was domestically produced wagyu beef steak and weighed approximately 3.5 kilograms.

The police confirmed that the woman left the store without paying for the meat. She was apprehended in the parking lot.

During questioning, the woman admitted to the charges, stating that she stole it “to save money.”

Tochigi police are investigating whether she shoplifted any other items.
