Sony Life Insurance to investigate all contracts following allegations of financial fraud

TOKYO (TR) – Following revelations that a Sony Life Insurance Co. employees had swindled dozens of customers, the company announced on Friday that it will launch an investigation into all insurance contracts handled by its employees and contracted agents.

The former employees, working at contracted agents, are suspected of defrauding customers of money by falsely claiming it was for investment management and then misappropriating the funds for personal use.

Amidst this, Sony Life announced that approximately 30 customers have reported “inappropriate financial conduct” by former employees.

Furthermore, Sony Life announced it will investigate all insurance contracts handled by its employees and contracted agents to see if there are any suspicious points.

The company plans to release the investigation results at the end of May. It also revealed its intention to investigate the policies of approximately 2.8 million customers in order to grasp the full extent of the problem.

In addition, since the former employees worked as “exclusive agents” handling only Sony Life insurance products, the company has decided to abolish the agent system.

Sony Life plans to release the investigation results by the end of next month and stated that it will “sincerely address customer issues, taking into account its social responsibility as a financial institution.”
