SHIZUOKA — Police in Ito City have arrested an 81-year-old man on suspicion of theft after he allegedly snatched a piece of women’s underwear from an apartment on Wednesday, reports Fuji News Network (Apr. 29).
At around 1:00 p.m., the resident of nearby town of Higashiizu, allegedly targeted the apartment and stole a single piece of underwear belonging to a woman in her 20s.
The garment, which had been hung out to dry under the eaves of the building, was valued at a mere 100 yen, according to police.
However, the brazen daytime theft did not go unnoticed. A neighbor who witnessed the octogenarian swiping the undergarment immediately contacted the authorities. Responding officers rushed to the scene and placed the man under arrest.
The suspect has admitted to the allegations. Police are currently investigating the circumstances and his motive behind the crime.
