KYOTO (TR) – Police have arrested a 46-year-old woman after she allegedly fed a male acquaintance a muffin laced with a highly toxic chemical earlier this year, reports TBS News (Aug. 22).
Kana Fujiki, a dispatch worker from Higashiomi City in Shiga Prefecture, is accused of lacing a muffin with acrylamide—a designated deleterious substance—and arranging for the 30-year-old victim to eat it in Kyoto City on July 24.
According to police, the poisoned baked good was passed to the man through a mutual acquaintance. The victim was rushed to a hospital after consuming the muffin, but his condition is reportedly not life-threatening.

Upon her arrest on suspicion of attempted murder, Fujiki denied having a murderous intent toward the victim.
Investigators suspect that an ongoing personal dispute between the two led to the poisoning. Because Fujiki is employed at a chemical-related company, police are currently investigating whether she used her workplace to obtain the restricted substance.
