SAGA (TR) – Saga Prefectural Police have arrested a 22-year-old woman after she barricaded herself inside a vehicle for about an hour to avoid taking a breathalyzer test, reports TV Asahi (Aug. 25).
Shortly after 3:00 a.m. on Monday, police were conducting a routine drunk driving checkpoint in Arita Town when they stopped a car driven by the suspect. Rather than comply with the breath test, the woman stalled, telling officers, “I need to go to the toilet.”
Officers permitted her to move the vehicle to a nearby convenience store parking lot. After briefly exiting to use the restroom, the woman returned to her car, locked the doors, and refused to come out — initiating an hour-long standoff in early morning temperatures exceeding 25 degrees Celsius.
Despite verbally admitting to officers through the glass that she had consumed alcohol, she adamantly refused to submit to the formal test.
Four police officers spent roughly an hour attempting to persuade her to unlock the doors and cooperate. When negotiations ultimately failed, officers shattered the vehicle’s window, forced their way in, and took the woman into custody.
The suspect, whose residence and occupation are currently unknown, was arrested on suspicion of refusing a breathalyzer test.
Upon her arrest, she admitted to the allegations, telling police, “There is no doubt I refused the alcohol test.”
