Chiba cops hunting for bag thief

CHIBA (TR) – A man tried to steal a woman’s bag on Thursday in Chiba City but gave up and fled after he was pursued by a group of men, which forced him to lash out with a knife leaving one of them lightly injured.

Police are searching for a man in his 50s who attempted to snatch a woman’s bag in a hardware store at around 9:20 a.m. in Makuhari, Hanamigawa Ward, the Sankei Shimbun reports (July 28).

The suspect snatched the woman’s bag and ran while she was taking out trash. A nearby group of men heard her cries for help and pursued him.

The men almost overpowered the thief about 100 meters down the road when he brandished a knife and stabbed one of the men, a 26-year-old, in his left abdomen and left shoulder.

The suspect dropped the bag and fled the scene. He was last seen wearing a black parka and khaki pants, and stands about 170-175 centimeters.
