NAGANO (TR) – Police in Nagano City have arrested a 78-year-old unemployed man on suspicion of violent theft after he allegedly assaulted a female security guard while attempting to steal two cartons of milk, reports Fuji News Network (June 6).
According to police, the incident took place just after 11:00 a.m. on June 5 at a local commercial facility. The suspect is accused of shoplifting the milk, which had a total retail value of 559 yen.
When a security guard in her 60s witnessed the theft and confronted the man, he allegedly attempted to flee the scene, punching the woman in her left arm multiple times in the process.
Following a report from facility staff, police reviewed security camera footage and subsequently tracked down and arrested the elderly suspect.
During questioning, the man denied the allegations regarding the assault. Police are continuing to investigate the specific motive and circumstances surrounding the incident.
