Man turns himself in after fatally stabbing 72-year-old father in Okinawa

OKINAWA (TR) – Police here have arrested a man in his 30s on suspicion of murder after his 72-year-old father was found stabbed to death in an Ishigaki City apartment complex, reports TBS News (May 26).

According to police, the suspect is accused of murdering his father, Masaru Nishihara, by stabbing him in the chest at the victim’s residence in the Arakawa area.

Investigators believe the fatal attack occurred sometime between noon on May 23 and 10:50 a.m. the following day.

The suspect surrendered to the Yaeyama Police Station at approximately 9:30 p.m. that evening and was immediately taken in for questioning.

Authorities have declined to disclose whether the son has admitted to the allegations, stating that doing so could hinder the ongoing investigation.

Police are proceeding cautiously as they examine the full circumstances surrounding the incident, which includes evaluating the suspect’s mental state to determine if he can be held criminally liable for the killing.
